Intel to launch Single Core ULV processors for sub-notebooks

Intel has in mind the niche market of sub-notebooks as it is planning to launch single-core ultra low voltage (ULV) CPU’s as the single core will have better consumption than the dual core’s. These new ULV processors will be in two models of U2200 and U2100. The features of U2200 will be 1. 1.2GHz speed 2. 1MB of L2 cache memory 3. 533MHz front-side bus The U2100 also will have same config. but the processor will be tuned to give 1.06 GHz speed. Intel already has an entry-level ULV processor Celeron M 523 ULV. While the Santa Rosa platform processor will be available in January these new ULV processors might take a little longer as rumors suggest that there launch date is in third Quarter of 2007.

CES 2007: Intel-based notebooks with 802.11(n) chips coming this month

Good news for those has arrived who were waiting anxiously for Intel based notebooks featuring faster 802.11(n) chips. The latest news is that the very first notebooks with Intel processors accompanied by the faster WiFi chips (MIMO standard) based on ‘Santa Rosa’ platform will hit the market in the first half of this year. At the CES 2007, Mooly Eden, vice president and general manager of Intel’s mobile platforms group cited that some manufacturers will start dropping MIMO-Intel notebooks in January. In 2006, when Intel announced that their Merom chips will be 20 times faster than AMD chips, it tuned out to be true. The inclusion of these faster wireless chips will improve the performance power of the Intel notebooks thereby giving a stiff competition to AMD.

NVIDIA to ship GeForce 8-Series for multimedia notebooks

NVIDIA is looking forward to roll out GeForce 8 series video cards for notebooks just in time for the release of the Intel Santa Rosa platform. Also known as Centrino Pro, the Santa Rosa platform is scheduled to make a debut by the end of Q1 this year or by the beginning of Q2. That means we will very soon witness the GeForce 8 shipping for inclusion in the multimedia notebooks. Nvidia’s Chief Executive Jen-Hsun Huang said: We are ramping production on our GeForce 8 family of notebook GPUs, the industry’s first DirectX 10 and high-definition video GPU for notebooks. The DirectX 10 is a suite of multimedia application programming interfaces (APIs) that helps improve the in-game and multimedia performance of the computer. Anyhow, the unit shipments of GeForce 8 family of graphics processors will be done by the end of Q4 this year or in the beginning of 2008.

The hottest news in the air in the laptop dome is that HP is going to take wraps off a 20-inch notebook dubbed the Pavilion HDX. This is not for the very first time that we will be witnessing a 20-incher machine but the new HDX Pavilion surely calls for attention as it features more than enough space to house both a full-sized keyboard and a windows media remote. The details are scarce but it is expected to feature the new Santa Rosa chipset, GeForce Go 8000 video card, HDMI out, and HD DVD functionality. The bid notebook weighs 12 lbs and is said to be a powerful gaming machine. There is no info about the pricing and availability at the moment. Via: Engadget

Seriously telling you a fact, the “Santa Rosa” popularity wave is not over yet, rather it is getting hotter day by day. These are Toshiba’s new entrants, the Qosmio G40 and F40. They have enough mettle to take over their rivals in a jiffy. Keeping in mind the competition patterns in the laptop market Toshiba has fully furnished these laptops to uphold their good old reputation and thus once again emerge as a clear winner. Both of the variants look stunningly beautiful and boast of a substantial amount of good features. The G40 features a 17 inches monitor with WUXGA, 1900×1200 resolution, Core 2 Duo T7300 or T7100 with 160 or 320GB HDD, has a analog/digital TV Tuner card, Nvidia GeForce 8600GT video card (256MB of DDR3 VRAM) and 1GB of RAM. With that weight of 5 kg it is a bit heavier as in comparison to the other notebooks available in the market, it measures – 440x303x38mm. The Toshiba F40 features a 15.4 inches screen (WXGA), analog/digital TV tuner card, Core 2 Duo T7100 processor, 1GB of RAM and 120GB of HDD. At 4kg, this one is considerably lighter; it measures – 379x279x38mm.

Leaked out details of Samsung Aura Q45 notebook

The ever-prying eyes of the gizmo freaks have definitely done a good job by leaking out some valuable details about Samsung’s Aura Q45 notebook. Ever since the ultra-portable notebook was previewed at CeBit this March, the glossy black notebook is surrounded by speculations. As per reports, the 12.1″ notebook is based on Intel’s Santa Rosa and features a 1.8GHz Intel T7100 Core 2 Duo with an 800MHz bus. It incorporates a 128MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 8400M for flawless graphics. The Q45 is believed to come with a minimum 1GB of RAM and 160GB hard disk. It also has a 1.3 megapixel webcam. The Samsung Aura Q45 notebook is expected to hit the European markets very soon with a price tag of €1,159 ($1,578).

Panasonic powers a couple of its Toughbooks with Santa Rosa

While almost all the laptop makers have dropped Santa Rosa equipped laptops on the shelves, we hadn’t seen the one from the house of Panasonic. But now, they have thrown the Santa Rosa love to two of its rugged Toughbook notebooks, the new CF-74 and CF-52. The CF-74 laptop, shown above, will come equipped with Intel’s 965 Express chipset, an unnamed Core 2 Duo processor, built-in 802.11n WiFi, and Intel’s Turbo Memory cache card along with the Santa Rosa platform. The CF-52 Toughbook has been blessed with enhanced security benefits of the Centrino Pro platform. The CF-74 will hit the shelves sometime in June followed by CF-52 in the month of July. Fujitsu Siemens uncover their Santa Rosa laptops

Some things in this world seem to get better and better all the time, same is the case with Santa Rosa based notebook series by Fujitsu Siemens. They have come up with their latest Amilo Pi2515 notebook so as to give a hot competition to their rival companies like HP, Lenovo and Sony. They are simply getting smarter day by day. They weigh a bit over six pounds which make them somewhat overweight as in comparison to the other notebooks in it’s class. They flaunt a 15.4-inch WXGA display, one can make a choice between T7100 or T7300 Core 2 Duo processors, Intel GMA X3100 graphics, a maximum of 2GB RAM, a 200GB HDD, a dual-layer DVD burner, and an ExpressCard slot.
