MobilityGuru has some fine slideshows on its site that compare the two new quality notebooks from the house of Gigabyte-the 12.1-inches W251U (pictured left) and the 15.4-inches W551N (pictured right). The slideshows have been made on the basis of different tests including the 3DMark05 PCMark05, MobileMark 2005, Display Brightness and the Contrast tests. Anyway, the prominent difference is the display size. While both the notebooks are bestowed with the Core 2 Duo processors, the W551N supports Nvidia GeForce Go 7400 graphic processor and the W251U features Intel GMA 950. The W251U runs on a 2GHz T7200 processor while the W251U features a 1.83GHz T5600. Blending the splendor with brawn, Asus has officially announced two new notebooks namely 15.4-inch G1 and 17-inch G2 aimed specifically at the hard-core gamers. While both the machines have almost the same specs, G1 touts green outer LEDs while the G2 has red. The salient features of the might gaming notebooks are: 1) Intel T7600/T7400/T7200/T5600/T5500 Core 2 Duo processor 2) Up to 2GB DDR2 RAM, Up to 160GB SATA hard drive 3) Dual-layer DVD burner, Integrated 1.3Mpix webcam, Bluetooth, and 802.11a/b/g 4) ExpressCard slot, Flash card reader, USB 2.0 ports The G1 features a WXGA / WSXGA Color Shine LCD with a 512MB NVIDIA GeForce Go7700 graphics set while the G2 comes rocking a WXGA display and the 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon X1700 card. Unfortunately, there is no news about the pricing but one thing I am sure of is that both the machines will certainly pick on your pockets.

NVIDIA is looking forward to roll out GeForce 8 series video cards for notebooks just in time for the release of the Intel Santa Rosa platform. Also known as Centrino Pro, the Santa Rosa platform is scheduled to make a debut by the end of Q1 this year or by the beginning of Q2. That means we will very soon witness the GeForce 8 shipping for inclusion in the multimedia notebooks. Nvidia’s Chief Executive Jen-Hsun Huang said: We are ramping production on our GeForce 8 family of notebook GPUs, the industry’s first DirectX 10 and high-definition video GPU for notebooks. The DirectX 10 is a suite of multimedia application programming interfaces (APIs) that helps improve the in-game and multimedia performance of the computer. Anyhow, the unit shipments of GeForce 8 family of graphics processors will be done by the end of Q4 this year or in the beginning of 2008.
Hybrid is the world which most of the companies seems to be concentration on these days. Now, Samsung has announced its very first laptop that comes with built-in “hybrid hard drive.” The new Samsung R55 multimedia notebook is the first obne to boast the same. The salient specs include an Intel Core 2 Duo T5600 processor clocked at 1.83 GHz, 15.4-inch WXGA LCD display, 80GB hybrid HDD, nVidia GeForce 7400 graphics card, and Vista Premium operating system.
