After some Dell notebooks went up in smoke, Dell has admitted that its 4.1 million batteries, with cells manufactured by Sony, are prone to overheating and could possible catch fire under exceptional conditions. Dell is now addressing the issue and offering free replacement for these affected batteries.
The models that feature affected batteries are Dell Latitude, Inspiron, Precision and XPS. Dell cited that notebooks bought between April 1, 2004 and July 18, 2006 could possible have a flawed battery. If you have bought the battery extra from the laptop with a ‘Made in China’ like label, you must call to verify, as it might be affected one.

You can visit the www.dellbatteryprogram.com for further details and the model number of the laptops.
