Hardly a few months have passed after Sony created a hype in the laptop industry by announcing its 12.1′ Vaio G notebook packed in a meager weight of 1.98 pounds, Asus seems to be following her footsteps as it announced U1 ultraportable at the CES 2007 at Las Vegas that comes with an 11.1-inch WXGA LCD display with 1360×768 resolution, 1.06GHz U2400 Core Duo processor, up to 1.5GB of DDR2 RAM, 80GB hard disk, Bluetooth, a webcam, external optical multi-drive, and a port replicator. And yes, all these features are stuffed into a weight of 1.78-pound (with 3-cell battery installed).

While there is no info about the graphics processor but the machine is Vista ready and will be equipped with integrated fingerprint reader, motion sensor and HDD protection. The sleek and sexy U1 will be released sometime in February for a market price of $2,199. What up next Asus?
