On May 16th Sony unveiled its latest high tech notebook computer - VAIO AR. This is the first computer that is Blu-ray disc enabled. This comes on the heels of Maxell’s latest announcement of a 200GB Blu-ray disc.
This little wonder is not all brains only, it can be fun too. It’s packed with a host of entertainment features that allow you to watch and record your favorite television shows. Its graphics card will be of real interest to game junkies. It’s got an NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 graphics card featuring 256MB dedicated video memory. This means that you will also be able to enjoy your DVDs and movies on the notebook itself. Of course if you already have one of those big screen TVs with high definition, you can always attach the notebook to the TV to watch your DVDs.

You can also use the VAIO AR for video chat, because it can incorporate a camera and microphone. With the camera feature you can record high-definition camcorder content to Blu-ray Discs. What this means is that if you are an aspiring director, you can essentially shoot, edit and burn their HD creation on a PC — all in native 1080 resolution. However, the VAIO AR recording feature is flexible and not restricted to only Blu-ray discs, you can use it to burn and share videos on traditional DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/+RW
An added bonus of the VAIO AR is that it comes with the latest Intel Centrino Duo mobile technology for processor-heavy multi-tasking and high-definition video editing.
If you’re already sure you want to buy one of these beauties, then the price tag is a bit steep. While the standard AR series will cost you $1,800, the AR Premium Blu-ray Disc enabled model is prized at approximately $3,500. Sony plans to ship this model with the Sony Pictures Entertainment Blu-ray Disc release, House of Flying Daggers. This should give viewers a high-definition experience on the PC right out of the box. Visit the Sony Web site to see how you can place your order.
